Doordarshan Kendra Chennai was inaugurated on August 15, 1975. The service has been extended to the entire state in phased manner by installing Terrestrial Transmitters of different capacities ( HPTs , LPTs, VLPTs ) at different parts of the state.

Chennai Central Railway Station

Chennai Central (Tamil: சென்னை சென்ட்ரல்) erstwhile Madras Central, is the main railway terminus in Chennai (Madras). It is the home of the Southern Railway and the most important rail hub in South India. Trains from here connect the city to New Delhi and prominent state capitals of India like Bhopal, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai, Patna, Kolkata, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram etc. Madras Central is also the main hub for the Chennai Suburban Railway system. The building of the railway station, one of the landmarks of Chennai(Madras), was designed by the architect Henry Irwin.

Thousand Lights Mosque

Thousand Lights Mosque (Tamil: ஆயிரம் விளக்கு மசூதி) , a beautiful multi domed mosque located at Anna Salai in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India is one of the largest mosques in the country and is a revered place of worship for Muslims. It was built by Nawab Umdat-ul-Umrah in the year 1810.

Ripon Building

Ripon Building is the seat of the Chennai Corporation (Madras Corporation) in Chennai (Madras), Tamil Nadu. This is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, a combination of three types of architectural styles - Gothic, Ionic and Corinthian.

Rock Cut Temple

Varaha Cave Temple, an example of Indian rock-cut architecture dating from the late 7th century, is a rock-cut cave temple located at Mamallapuram, is a finest testimonial of anciest Vishwakarma Sthapathis, a tiny village south of Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Part of the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram, the temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lighthouse

The Madras Light House (Tamil: சென்னைக் கலங்கரை விளக்கம்) is a lighthouse facing the Bay of Bengal on the east coast of the Indian Subcontinent. It is a famous landmark on the Marina Beach in Chennai, India. It was built by the East Coast Constructions and Industries in 1976 replacing the old lighthouse in the northern direction. The lighthouse was opened in January 1977. It also houses the meteorological department and is restricted to visitors. It is one of the few lighthouses in the world and the only one in India with an elevator.
